Community as Treatment

Grant funding by Hunter New England Primary Health Network. Created by Fluffy Cloud Media with Awabakal.

‘A sense of purpose and connection can make a big difference to someone who is struggling’.

‘Helping someone doesn’t mean solving their problems. It’s about listening and supporting’.

Fluffy Cloud partnered with Awabakal to create a series of three short animations, ‘Community as Treatment’. The animations raise awareness and support and encourage pathways for conversations, with young to middle aged Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander men.

The animations focus on themes that are common in the indigenous community and  encourage friends and family to help someone who might be struggling. The friendly relatable characters interact through positive and proactive encounters. The characters demonstrate conversations we can have with someone we know. You don’t need to be an expert to help someone.

Animation is a great way to deliver these messages as it captures peoples attention through the unique style and incorporates humour which we know connects people. It can also serve to bridge a gap for those who who are not easily able to read well, thus reaching more people.

With special thanks to Awabakal, Rod Smith, Simone Jordan, Debbie Swan and Owen Craigie who where essential for creating relevant content and guiding the project.

‘Community as Treatment’ is a Hunter New England, Primary Health Network, Grant funded project. Fluffy Cloud would like to thank Jane Mendelson and Daniel Reynolds for their support.
