Surf Safety

City of Wollongong & The Life Guard Service

Wollongong City Council’s Recreation and Lifeguard Services teams engaged Fluffy Cloud Media to help deliver their Surf Education Program to primary and high school students in the Wollongong area.

With Covid-19 safety and health challenges, the Department of Education placed restrictions on school visits. As a result Council needed to reinvent the way they delivered their Surf Education Program. With our animation we were able to summarise key surf safety messages that formed the basis of a online Surf Education lesson, that could be facilitated remotely by Lifeguards and school teachers.

The nature of the visual imagery and inclusion of subtitles made this style of communication most effective in portraying the messages to a broad audience.

The animation helps the viewer understand important, potentially life saving information. We cover decoding beach signage, recognising lifeguards and lifesavers, how to prepare for going to the beach, recognising rips and what to do if you get stuck in one and most importantly swimming between the red and yellow flags.

“Wollongong Council commends Fluffy Cloud Media for their involvement in the project and excellent production of this animation.”

— Wollongong Council, AusLeisure magazine

“With a tight deadline and a constantly evolving script and parameters they did an amazing job and managed to deliver a clip that is unlike anything else in Surf Education.”

— Ben McRae, Wollongong City Council Life Guard Service
